Intent and Purpose for Educators, Administrators, and Education Professionals
The history of classism explains how the inequity of wealth distribution has unfairly disadvantaged certain groups in society and has diminished economic, political, and other life opportunities for the oppressed. The past can shed light on current circumstances and can reveal potential courses of action to overcome the effects of classism (poverty, racism, sexism, etc...). Educators and other school professionals should have a solid understanding of the dynamics that makes classism a force that contributes to the marginalization of lower SES communities. Through the use of the website, educators can learn about how certain groups (mostly white, upper class) have dominated the social ladder and have perpetuated the inequity that exists in society.
It is critical for Educators, Administrators and Education Professionals to become aware of the fact that classism is alive and well in 2013. It is also imperative that we are taking action to reduce it and provide opportunities for equality. The intent of the section "Classism at its Current" is to produce an awareness of how rampant classism is in our society and how we are either making it better or worse. Knowledge is power and my hope is that Academia will become informed not only for the sake of their students, but also for our own benefit. Educators are loosing their power and as a result aren't able to effect change, have a voice, and ultimately teach as we ought and as we like.
